We worked hard through December to deliver a fully upgraded network that will provide all our schools with better website performance and better security procedures as we head into the new year.
We’re committed to providing our schools with the best possible hosting service and as part of this ongoing work, all of our schools will now benefit from start-of-the-art hardware and technology improvements employed across our network. All of our websites have been migrated onto new and improved web servers, along with better infrastructure and better security procedures.
Our Hosting Platform
Our school websites are now hosted on an autoscaling, 100% SSD, UK based cloud hosting platform.
The hosting platform is load balancing and autoscaling. Autoscaling literally means that resources scale automatically. Bandwidth, memory and processing power is scaled up or down instantly in response to changes in demand. So, if there’s a surge in traffic, our websites will continue to offer the same fast experience for every visitor or user.
Similarly, the platforms load balancing makes use of monitors that will respond to traffic load and balance it across multiple servers when needed. The consequence is that your school website stays online, and remains fast, whatever load the servers are under.
Our websites are stored entirely on SSD Storage and use quality Samsung Enterprise SSD drives. SSD (solid-state-drive) storage is much faster than the more traditional magnetic, spinning HDD equivalent. Using 100% SSD ensures super-fast, search engine friendly websites.
The network hardware is based in state-of-the-art UK data centres, that are ISO27001:2013 certified. They’re manned 24/7, include high-level physical security measures and use UK-based IP blocks for better speeds and search engine results.
In addition to the hosting platform upgrades we’ve also made two procedural improvements for added security protection; more frequent backups and automatic daily malware scans.
All school website files and databases are now backed up daily and these backups are stored for 30 days. This means that if there’s any issue with the website we can just revert to an earlier day in time.
Daily Malware Scans
All websites are now automatically being scanned each day for common malware, using commercial tools and systems. Malware can compromise an installation, and these scans will alert us to any problem quickly. The scans provide detailed reports that will help us to diagnose and resolve any issues that may occur.
Ongoing upgrades to our school websites will push on as normal and we’ve got some exciting editor improvements in the development pipeline, that are now just around the corner. More information on these coming soon!
Thanks to all the local authority IT services who helped with the school domain modifications we needed to make the migration a seamless success. If you have any further questions about our school website hosting please just get in touch and we’ll be happy to help.
